Project Management

At Excel SoftSources,  project managers plan, organize and direct resources towards to successful completion of software development projects.  Project managers work directly with client in matters including, but not limited to, scope definition, resource planning, work effort, risk and issues.  In some cases, differing software methdologies work better with different project management approaches.  Excel Softsources tailors the project management approach to the chosen methodology.  Thus, Excel will use an Extreme project management approach for an Agile project or a more traditional project management approach for a classic Waterfall project.  However, in either case, Excel uses best-practices project management processes to drive each work effort.

    SQERT Project Management Model

Excel SoftSources follows the SQERT project management model to guide decision-making, planning and execution of project.  SQERT is an acronym for scope, quality, effort, risk and timeline.

  • Scope - the sum of functional and technical capabilities of the software project
  • Quality - the rate of software defects, functionality and usability of the software product
  • Effort - the total investment in the project including direct labor, expenses and technology
  • Risk - the uncertainty which may impact any of the other four factors of the SQERT Model
  • Timeline - the milestones and duration for delivery

Excel understands that the SQERT model has a high degree of interdependence.  Thus, when a decision is required which may impact a factor such as timeline - the subsequent impact to all other factors must be evaluated.   In most cases, a project will experience negative constraints such as an agressive timeline.  In this case, experience shows that other factors such as scope, quality, effort and/or risk can help mitigate the timeline constraint.

Excel SoftSources assigns each customer an north american account manager.  Account managers have deep experience in full life-cycle software implementations and serve as liason between the customer and the near-shore team.
